I am pleased to announce that the Houston Community College (HCC) Board of Trustees has approved the appointment of Dr. Margaret Ford Fisher as permanent Chancellor, effective immediately. A contractual agreement has been executed.

I am pleased to announce that the Houston Community College (HCC) Board of Trustees voted on Dec. 29, 2023, to name Margaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D. as sole finalist for the position of the institution's next Chancellor. Dr. Ford Fisher has served as HCC's Interim Chancellor since Sept. 1, 2023.

In a special meeting held on June 20, 2023, the Houston Community College Board of Trustees announced the selection of Margaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D., as the sole finalist for the Interim Chancellor position, effective September 1.

The Houston Community College (HCC) Board of Trustees remains committed to keeping you both engaged in and informed about the process of selecting a permanent chancellor for HCC. As we advance this important initiative, our immediate plan is to allow implementation of a proposed 90-day plan presented to the HCC governing board on September 27, 2023, by Interim Chancellor, Dr. Margaret Ford Fisher. The plan serves the purpose of guiding key college initiatives in the near term.

The HCC Board of Trustees is launching a national search to identify an Interim Chancellor to lead HCC this next academic year while we undertake a more extensive, participatory search for a permanent Chancellor. At this week’s Board meeting, we finalized the process for the search (including timeline and position profile), and we are opening the position for applications beginning today.

After a thorough process that included informative meetings in each Houston Community College (HCC) trustee district, and with input from the college’s redistricting team, the HCC Board of Trustees has adopted map Plan 1A, believing that this plan best holds to the Board’s agreed upon criteria, such as: to preserve existing boundaries when possible and preserve constituent relations.

The Board of Trustees publicly and formally invites qualified members of the public to apply to be considered for appointment to the position of HCC Trustee District II. The Texas Education Code requires that the position for HCC Trustee, District II be up for election at the next regular trustee election in November 2023 for the unexpired term. The current term for HCC Trustee District II will expire on December 31, 2025.

Today, December 17, 2021, the HCC Board of Trustees received notice from the trustee who engaged in the illegal actions that she resigns her position from the HCC governing board. The Board of Trustees remains committed to transparency and acting in the best interest of the public. We shall remain vigilant in doing what is right for our students and this institution.
