Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to make an appointment to see someone in your office?
While an appointment is not necessary, it is a good idea to establish that a trained investigator is in the office as the majority of our work is out in field among our over 27 locations. We are also willing to meet you at any of these HCC locations for your convenience.
Are there forms on the website that I can print out, complete and fax to your office?
The forms are not on the website as we encourage face to face interviews. However, if it is not possible for you to meet with us at one of our HCC locations, arrangements can be made to fax or mail the forms to you.
How long does it take for a complaint to be investigated?
According to our procedures, student complaints are investigated within 30 days and all other complaints are afforded 60 days.
What about confidentiality? I don’t want anyone to know my business.
Our office is very confidential as it only shares limited information on a need-to-know basis. You may also elect to remain anonymous with the exception of sexual harassment complaints. Records of complaints are not comingled with student or employee records. All information is kept within the Office of Institutional Equity.
What are my options if my complaint is not resolved?
You may file an external complaint with either the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission if you are an employee or the Department of Education if you are a student.
