Volunteer for Events

Volunteer for Events

Volunteer work provides a unique opportunity for students during their time at college to make a difference to their local community. But don’t let that second word “work” scare you away. It can be hard to imagine giving away your precious time for free. However, what is important to understand is that volunteering pays you back in an infinite amount of ways, and many of those rewards are more valuable than currency.

Below is a list of reasons why volunteering is worth your time and effort:

  • You get a chance to network and meet new people with similar interests and feel a part of the community.
  • Break out of the “Student bubble” and learn things you can’t learn in the classroom, such as community awareness and a better understanding of everyday people.
  • Build your resume as you developtransferable skills such as teamwork, interpersonal communication skills, time management, critical thinking—which are skills most employers look for.
  • Gain work experience that could possibly lead to a new fulfilling career.
  • Opportunity to get a reference. Getting that first job out of college can be difficult, especially without a lot of work experience, but a good reference could be that extra boost for you to score the job!
  •  BONUS: You will enjoy it! It’s an indescribable feeling of joy knowing you are doing good, helping people, and making a difference in the community.
