Weekend College

The Weekend College at HCC: Saturdays Only

Weekend College 2022 Students

Designed for working adults who want a degree, the Weekend College offers you the opportunity to receive an Associate’s Degree or Certificate in two years or less by attending school only on Saturdays. If you need college for job advancement or transfer to a four-year university, don’t just take a class—complete a program and earn a degree!

The Weekend College offers classes in 8- week sessions, in a hybrid format. By taking only two classes at a time, you can focus more clearly on the subjects you are studying. You will study with a cohort of students just like you with a face-to-face professor, then complete some of your work online. You will take four classes each semester (2 courses each 8- week session) which makes you eligible for financial aid as a full-time student. A few courses will be offered fully online.

No more wasted coursework, as your entire schedule is mapped out for the two years. From the beginning, you will see the guided pathway and exactly when each course is offered in the program. We guarantee that the courses will make. In addition, we offer you support in admissions, registration, academic advising and applications for financial aid. Free tutoring will be available in on campus or online.

In short, your success is our total mission in the Weekend College

Student Resources

The Weekend College faculty and staff are a team of educators fully committed to your success.  Since your classes will be smaller than those found at other colleges, you will get to know your professors well. Also, academic advisors will follow your progress from admissions to graduation, making sure that you are proceeding successfully throughout the program.  There are no wasted hours or detours to derail you from completing your degree or certificate.

The physical facilities where your will study are state of the art, including fully supported multi-media classrooms, labs, and tutoring spaces. A comprehensive college library is housed in the Learning Hub, the building adjacent to SJAC. Food services are available for students during the lunch hour from businesses adjacent to the campus; microwaves are available for students who wish to bring their own lunch.

Parking is free and plentiful on Saturdays, immediately behind the San Jacinto Building. The Central College Campus is located just two blocks from a major Metro Stop, the HCC/Ensemble Theatre stop on South Main St.  Metro buses also service the campus, making this location accessible from all over the city of Houston.

Costs and Financial Aid

HCC is one of the most affordable colleges in the region with student tuition determined by residency. Students are coded one of the following:  in-district (in the taxing district of HCC), out-of-district, or out-of-state/international.

For students taking 12 credit hours a semester, the cost for tuition is roughly the following:

In-district

$1020.00

Out-of-district

$2172.00

Out-of-state

$2730.00

These rates are found on the Tuition Calculator.

Also, since 12 credit hours is the threshold for being considered a full-time student, students fully enrolled in The Weekend College are eligible for financial aid through Pell Grants, Texas Grants, or one of the many scholarships available through the HCC Foundation (www.hccsfoundation.org )

Military and Veterans

VA Benefits are available for The Weekend College.
