Houston Community College District V Trustee Robert Glaser was elected to the Community College Association of Texas Board of Trustees at the organization's June 2 meeting in Ft. Worth. Glaser will serve in an at-large position.

This year marked the fourth spring graduation for the University of Texas-Tyler, that had more than 80 students graduate for the program.

The Trio Electric Company of Houston had many job openings for electricians, but not nearly enough qualified workers to fill them. So, Trio looked for an innovative solution to its talent shortage and found it in a partnership with Houston Community College and Spring Branch ISD.

Kevin Miller worked at an accounting firm and wanted to become a Certified Public Accountant. But Miller had never taken a formal accounting course, had no time for traditional classes, and had very little chance of passing the CPA exam. Then he turned to Houston Community College and HCC changed his life.

HCC is offering free tuition and waiving mandatory fees for up to six credit hours per semester for students in that age group. The second annual Houston Cyber Summit, held on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at the George R. Law enforcement relies on HCC to deliver trained police officers. The new Culinary Arts Center is being constructed on parking lot 10 at HCC Central Campus, right next to the college's five-story parking garage near Alabama, La Branch, Winbern and Austin streets. The building will be two stories tall and will comprise 38,000-square-feet. Construction is expected to take about two years.

Houston Community College is on a mission to thrill and educate young students in simulated flights to Mars, the Moon and beyond. The flights will blast off at the new Challenger Learning Center, where elementary, middle and high school students will be taught how to apply the STEM subjects of science, technology, engineering and math to a trip to outer space.

The Harris County District Attorney’s office has charged a man for allegedly making a terroristic threat at Houston Community College Central Campus. Luis Antonio Rivera, 21, was arrested and charged following the investigation by HCC Police.

Houston Community College students and administrators met Monday with Holly L. Ham, executive director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific islanders. The meeting at the HCC Administration Building in Midtown was the latest stop in a national tour Ham is taking to promote the initiative’s desire to help improve the lives of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
