Testing Guidelines

Important To Know

TEST CENTER ADMITTANCE

Original non-expired, government-issued photo ID bearing a signature is required to be admitted for testing. Acceptable forms of photo ID include, but are not limited to driver’s license, state identification card, passport, military ID, state concealed handgun license, Matricula Consular and Tribal Identification. A photocopy or picture of ID is not acceptable. 

 

Center Guidelines 

  • No electronic devices, cell phones, smart watches, e-cigarettes or other personal items are allowed in the testing rooms. All personal items must be placed in a secured locker. 
  • No food, drinks, gum or candy allowed.
  • Weapons, including but not limited to firearms, knives, or any object that could be used as a weapon, are prohibited from the test center. These items are not allowed on the premises and may not be stored in the provided lockers. This policy extends to off-duty law enforcement officers and persons with conceal and carry permits.
  • Pockets should be emptied of all personal items.
  • Examinees are asked to remove scarves, caps, hats, bonnets, hoodies, coats or any accessory, including jewelry other than those worn for religious reasons. 
  • Children are not allowed in the test rooms.  Individuals who bring children to the campus are responsible for their supervision at all times.  Houston Community College Police will be contacted if any child is left unattended.
  • No one may accompany a tester into a testing room at any time. This includes children, friends, spouses, etc.  
  • Only the materials outlined by each exam sponsor or instructor are allowed in the testing rooms. 
  • Breaks are limited to no more than 10 minutes unless otherwise approved.
  • Remain quiet in the lab. If there is a question, raise a hand for proctor assistance.
  • Houston Community College is not responsible for theft, loss or damage to any prohibited electronic device, cell phone or other personal property brought to the testing rooms. 

 

Prohibited Items

All personal belongings are prohibited within the testing room. This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • All electronic devices, such as cell phones, smart and digital watches, activity tracking devices (Fitbit(s)), laptops, tablets, smart glasses, headphones, and earbuds.
  • Clothing: Outerwear, such as winter coats, raincoats, and gloves. All types of hats, caps, and beanies. Sunglasses.
  • All food and beverages, including water.
  • Large bracelets, large necklaces, analog watches, non- metal jewelry items (e.g., necklaces/bracelets made of silicone, rubber, fiber or nylon).
  • Lanyards and nametags.

 

Academic Dishonesty

Academic honesty is essential in achieving academic excellence.  Engaging in academic dishonesty will result in dismissal from the test center and reporting of the incident to the instructor/college of record and/or testing agency. Academic dishonesty may result in voided test/or failing grade, further disciplinary action, and/or suspension.

 

Examples of academic dishonesty include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Not adhering to the guidelines established by the instructor for a particular exam.
  • Accessing prohibited or unauthorized items or materials, such as cell phones, notes or books at any time including during breaks. 
  • Representing the work of others to be one's own.
  • Facilitating dishonesty by others.
  • Copying from another person's test.
  • Using unauthorized materials.
  • Taking an examination for another.
  • Permitting another to take an exam for you.
  • Removing or attempting to remove a test, any portion of it, or its answers from the Testing Center.
