Subject: Changes to HCC’s Plans for the Spring 2021 Semester

 

With the COVID-19 risk level in the Houston area rising, HCC is taking precautions to further limit on-campus activity for the start of the Spring 2021 semester. This includes changes to course delivery for our Flex Campus and select Lab-Based courses, as well as changes to the availability of in-person student support services. 

We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may present, but felt they were necessary to safeguard our students, faculty and staff based on current local conditions. Please review the detailed changes below to understand how these adjusted plans impact the courses you enrolled in for the Spring.

 

Reminders & Changes to Instructional Plans

Online on a Schedule & Online Anytime Courses

  • These courses will continue to be delivered online as planned with no changes.
    • This means students enrolled in Online on a Schedule courses are expected to login to class using Eagle Online at the scheduled dates and times they enrolled in.
    • Students enrolled in Online Anytime courses will also access class using Eagle Online.

 

Flex Campus Courses

  • As previously announced, all Flex Campus courses will be delivered remotely (online) from January 19 until Spring Break.
  • Decisions about post-Spring Break on-campus plans for Flex Campus courses will be shared by February 22.

 

Lab-Based Courses

  • Select Lab-Based courses will change from on-campus to online delivery from January 19 until Spring Break. After Spring Break, these labs will resume on campus. Labs impacted by this change include courses in the following programs.
    • Academic Labs in:
      • Liberal Arts, Humanities & Education
        • Including all English as a Second Language (ESOL) labs
      • Life & Natural Sciences
    • Center of Excellence (COE)/Workforce Labs in:
      • Global Energy
      • Visual & Performing Arts
  • Lab-Based courses in the following programs will continue to meet on campus as planned starting January 19.
    • Advanced Manufacturing (all programs)
    • Architectural Design & Construction
      • Construction Management Technology
      • Heating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration
      • Industrial Electricity
      • Drafting & Design Engineering Technology
      • Plumbing I & II
    • Automotive
      • Automotive Technology

Changes to Student Support Services Plans

We will continue to provide virtual and limited on-campus access to student and instructional support services, but the schedule has changed. For details about what services will be available and when, please visit the Virtual Lobby page on our website.

 

Safety Protocols While on Campus

Safety protocols will continue to be enforced for anyone who accesses an HCC location in the Spring. This includes the completion of our pre-screening process, as well as wearing face masks and social distancing at all times. While the start of the Spring semester will look different than we originally anticipated, we remain committed to helping you achieve your educational goals, and we look forward to supporting you as the semester kicks off next week.
