Subject: HCC Plans for the Spring 2021 Semester
With the COVID-19 risk level in the Houston area remaining high, HCC continues to take precautions to safeguard our community while also continuing to deliver on our mission. As we bring the Fall semester to a close and prepare for the holidays, I want to share a few updates about plans for instructional delivery and student support for the Spring 2021 semester.
Instructional Plans – This information has changed from what was initially announced. Please go here for the latest information.
- Lab-Based, Online on a Schedule and Online Anytime courses will continue as planned starting January 19.
- For Lab-Based courses, this means you will meet on campus for in-person instruction per the course syllabi. If you have questions about specific requirements or expectations for your lab courses, please reach out to your professor.
- Flex Campus courses will be delivered remotely (online) from January 19 until Spring Break. After Spring Break, the on-campus, face-to-face component will begin.
- Students in these courses will use Eagle Online to remotely access their classes at the scheduled dates and times.
- Prior to the start of the on-campus, face-to-face component after Spring Break, students will receive notice of the dates they are able to attend in-person. In-person participation is optional.
- These courses are intentionally designed with flexibility, so instruction should not be impacted or delayed as a result of starting Flex Campus courses online.
Although these plans are subject to change as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, we recognize that appropriate lead time is necessary for our faculty, staff and students to effectively plan and prepare for any changes. Therefore, while we may reduce planned activities due to local conditions, we will not significantly increase planned on-campus activity before Spring Break. We will send additional communication to students to either confirm or revise the post-Spring Break plans detailed above by February 22.
Student Support Services Plans
We will continue to provide virtual and limited on-campus access to student services, financial aid, study spaces (with and without computer access) and tutoring in the Spring. The majority of services will be available online starting January 4, and a limited number of services will be available on-campus by appointment. Additionally, students can access free WiFi via a number of HCC parking lot locations. For details about what services will be available and when, please visit the Virtual Lobby page on our website.
Safety Protocols While on Campus
Safety protocols will continue to be enforced for anyone who accesses an HCC location in the Spring. This includes the completion of our pre-screening process, as well as wearing face masks and social distancing at all times. For more information about visiting an HCC location, review this resource.
HCC is committed to helping you achieve your educational goals, and we look forward to supporting you in the Spring semester. I wish you and your families a warm, safe and restful holiday and winter break!
