Houston City College's new Houston City Voices project has landed its second grant win this summer, a $15,000 award from the Scripps Howard Fund's Community College Experiential Journalism Grant program.

After initially pursuing a career in criminal justice, Briānna Lowe realized that career path wasn’t her passion. The Michigan native dropped out of Grand Rapids Community College in 2020. Two years later, something in her spirit compelled her to move to Houston and fulfill her desire to become a chef.

As Houston’s population continues to grow, so does the need for highly trained emergency medical professionals. The HCC EMS program is helping meet that demand by preparing students for careers on the front lines of healthcare and public safety.

HCC is expanding opportunities for academically ambitious students through its Global Online Honors College, which launched in spring 2025 to bring the benefits of honors education to students who need the flexibility of a virtual learning environment.
